Hurricane Beryl made landfall as a category one hurricane before dawn today and has been battering eastern Texas all day. Maximum sustained winds were 80 mph at landfall with gusts well over 90 mph. Even well inland at Houston, TX wind gusts of 82 mph were recorded late this morning. Power companies in Texas report 2,650,000 customers without power. The storm has only slowly weakened and as of last advisory Beryl was still a 70 mph tropical storm. Heavy rains will spread northeastward along Beryl's path. Tornado watches related to Beryl are out for NE Texas, western Louisiana, and SW Arkansas. Here is the latest satellite loop, rain forecast and track forecast.

Here at home, hot and humid days will continue with some sunshine each day but also scattered mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Highs around 90 today, 90-95 tomorrow through Thursday, and 85-90 of Friday, when storms could be most numerous keeping temperatures a bit lower. The better chance of rain is a welcomed change from the very dry past several weeks.
